SPRINGFIELD (May 24, 2006) At its Annual Awards Program held May 24th at the Inn at 835 the Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) made a $10,000 donation to the Elijah Iles House Foundation. CAAR President Cheryl Dambacher and CAAR Community Service Committee Chairman Dana Lyons presented the check to Dave Barringer, President of the Iles House Foundation and Dick Hart, Board member.

Specifically, this money is to be utilized for the installation of a wheelchair accessible elevator which will cost an estimated $80,000 to install. The elevator will enable the house to become fully accessible.

In 1996, during its 75th Anniversary, CAAR was one of the first organizations to support the Elijah Iles House by raising $14,000 to assist in moving the structure to its present location. “Now, ten years later and as we celebrate our 85th Anniversary it is fitting that the association step forward once again to assist the Iles House. This is truly one of the great historical gems of our community,” said Dambacher.

That early support was crucial, noted Dave Barringer, President of the Iles Foundation. “They were with us from the beginning and we appreciate their efforts to make Springfield’s oldest House accessible to everyone.”

Contributions for the elevator project can be sent to Iles House Foundation, P. O. Box 144, Springfield, Illinois 62705.

The Capital Area Association of REALTORS® is the Voice for Real Estate in the Capital Area representing more than 900 members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industry.
