REALTORS Plan Trivia Night to Benefit Food Bank

SPRINGFIELD (February 23, 2009) The Capital Area Association of REALTORS (CAAR) announces its upcoming “Freaky Friday” Trivia Night to be held on Friday the 13th” of March to benefit an area food program.

Each year the Community Service Committee of the CAAR identifies one organization to be the primary benefactor of its fundraising efforts. This year’s Committee, chaired by Laura Bridges, chose the Central Illinois Foodbank as the benefactor. As a non-profit organization the Central Illinois Foodbank’s mission is "...to collect donated food and grocery items from growers, manufacturers, processors, and wholesalers for distribution to 160 charitable agencies serving people in need throughout 21 central Illinois counties."

The public is invited to attend this Trivia Night event to be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall (2200 Meadowbrook Road, Springfield). The Master of Ceremonies, sponsored by CEFCU, will be Kevin Lust. Attendees for the Trivia Night may sign up in groups or as individuals who wish to be assigned to a group. The cost is $20.00 per person or $160.00 per table of eight for pre-registered players/attendees. The cost for walk-ins is $25.00 each. A prize will be awarded for the best decorated table. The winning table will receive a cash prize. Free beer, wine and soda is included in the admission fee. Pizza and bake sale items will be available for purchase.

Additionally, a bucket auction and live auction will be conducted. Some of the auction items include a basketball autographed by Karl Malone, Cardinal baseball tickets, LRS racing package, Chief Illiniwek’s “last dance basketball” autographed by the Chief and a football autographed by Emery Moorehead of the 1985 Chicago Bears SuperBowl Championship team.

According to CAAR President Nancy Long, ABR, CRS, GRI, previous other benefactors of CAAR’s fundraisers have included the Hoogland Center for the Arts, Southwind Park, The Salvation Army, the Iles House Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Springfield Green, to name a few”. “With the recent downturn in the economy and jobless numbers the number of those in need to continues to climb. Now, more than ever, it is important to support organizations such as the Foodbank. When we began to consider charities to support this coming year we made a conscious decision to pick a cause that would widely benefit our community”, said Long.
