At its Annual Awards Program held on March 19, 2014 the Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) honored certain individuals for their contributions to the real estate industry and community.
Kristie DeBrun, GRI, GREEN, SFR was selected by her peers as the 2014 REALTOR® OF THE YEAR. This cherished award is presented annually to a REALTOR® who is faithful to the principles of organized real estate, real estate laws and regulations of the Association; sets an example of sound real estate practices; promotes cooperation among fellow REALTORS®; and has an outstanding interest in civic and community affairs. Ms. DeBrun joined the association in 2003, holds the GRI, GREEN and SFR designations and is currently affiliated with Campo Realty. DeBrun has chaired and served on numerous association committees including the Board of Directors and is currently the association's Secretary/Treasurer.
The REALTOR® COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD is given to honor an individual who has made outstanding service contributions to the community. This award was presented to Sandy Hamilton, GRI who has been a member of the association since 2007 and is currently affiliated with RE/MAX Professionals. Ms. Hamilton is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Network and serves on the association's Board of Directors.
The coveted HALL OF FAME AWARD is given only to REALTORS® with a history of community service, moral and social integrity, high professional standards a minimum of 50 years of age and a minimum of 20 years exemplary service to the Capital Area Association of REALTORS®. This year the award was presented to Patrick Grady, Betty Shuster and Phil Spengler.
Patrick Grady has been a member of CAAR since 1969 and is broker-owner of Grady REALTORS, Inc. Over the years, this individual has participated on various committees. In 1981 this individual was joined in real estate by his wife Betty followed by his three children Cindy, David and Melissa. In recognition of 40 years of membership this individual became REALTOR Emeritus in 2010.
Betty Shuster has been a member of the association since 1978, is affiliated with RE/MAX Professionals and holds the prestigious Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Designation. This individual is also a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame. Over the years, this individual has participated on various committees.
Phil Spengler joined the association in 1964 and is the owner and Managing Broker of Wanless-Spengler. Among his contributions to the association this individual has served on the REALTOR and Developer Committee for several years having chaired this Committee in 1997 and 1998 during a very tumultuous time for development in Springfield. This individual is also a member of the Commercial Real Estate Network.
The AFFILIATE OF THE YEAR AWARD was presented to Misty Buscher. Buscher has been an Affiliate member of the association since 2002 and has served on a vareity of committees including the Board of Directors. Ms. Buscher is employed as a loan officer iwth Marine Bank.
Also, Beverly Collins (RE/MAX Professionals), Ted Curtis (Ted Curtis, REALTOR), Bill Dragoo (RE/MAX Professionals) and Sharon Oaks (RE/MAX Professionals) were all recognized as having achieved the 70/30 REALTOR Emeritus status (70/30 means a minimum of 70 years of age and 30 years of membership).
